Last Monday evening Hexham’s Tynedale Tennis Club held its Annual General Meeting at Prior’s Flat. As well as the usual business meeting, this occasion marked George Miller’s retirement as Chairman of the club.

In the five years that George has been chairman he has achieved many things. He has overseen restoration and refurbishment of the Victorian tennis pavilion. He has made sure that the courts and grounds have been maintained to the highest level, and he has been unstinting in his efforts to attract new members to this thriving community club, making them feel welcome at the social tennis sessions on Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. George has also been and will continue to be a valuable member of the mens’ and mixed veterans teams in the Northumberland and Durham leagues.

On Monday evening the club presented George with a pair of engraved crystal wine glasses. George will be ably succeeded as chairman by Vince Burini another well-known and committed sports personality in Tynedale in both tennis and badminton.
